Objective and Syllabus


Week One:
Relationship-building, interviews with partners, and introductions

 
Week Two:  Two-person poems   7.9.6.6 ; Adapt speech to a variety of contexts, audiences, tasks, and feedback from self and others, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate. 
 
Week Three: Impromptu Speeches ( this should give students speaking practice for presenting their biography interviews)   7.9.6.6 ; Adapt speech to a variety of contexts, audiences, tasks, and feedback from self and others, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate.
 
Week Four:  Debatable Topics, Research ( this will reinforce research skills specifically paraphrasing and citing sources) 7.5.1.1 Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.  7.5.6.6 Determine an author’s point of view or purpose in a text and analyze how the author distinguishes his or her position from that of others. 
 
Week Five:  Socratic Seminars Standard 7.9.1.1 Engage effectively in range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts and issues, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly. 
 
Week Six:  Reader’s Theatre 7.4.10.10 ; By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature and other texts including stories, drams, and poems, in the grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently and independently with appropriate scaffolding for text at the high end of the range. 7.9.6.6 ; Adapt speech to a variety of contexts, audiences, tasks, and feedback from self and others, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate. 
 
Week Seven:  Reader’s Theatre 7.9.6.6 ; Adapt speech to a variety of contexts, audiences, tasks, and feedback from self and others, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate.
 
Week Eight:  Reader’s Theatre, create an animation of your reader’s theatre story  7.9.8.8 As an individual or in collaboration, create an artistic or entertaining multimedia work or a piece of digital communication or contribute to an online collaboration for a specific purpose. 
 
Week Nine:  Wrap up the Year
